“To the unknown civilization that is growing in America”

Hayek’s dedication to his The Constitution of Liberty, a book written in America during the 1950s.

Hayek lived in Chicago for a little more than a decade.  Hayek always felt at home in the ancient capital city of London, a city he found comfortably similar to his home town of Vienna.  The great man never quite got used to Chicago and America, although he was always energized by his summer trips to America in the 70s and 80s.  What Hayek clearly loved most about America was its bright, driven, and challenging young scholars.

The new Collected Works edition of the Constitution of Liberty drops in November.  You can pre-order a copy of the book from Amazon — currently only $18.90 — a 33% discount off the regular price.
