road to serfdom: Now #247 at Amazon among All Books

The amazing sales run on Friedrich Hayek’s The Road to Serfdom continues — it’s currently #247 among all books at Amazon.

Why the remarkable sales spike?  Well, in the midst of the current turmoil all sorts of people are talking about it and recommending it, e.g. Steve Forbes in his magazine, Glenn Reynolds on Instapundit, the chairman of Sears / Kmart in his letter to stockholders, Rush Limbaugh on his radio show, the founder of Motley Fool in his newsletter, the editors of a major California newspaper on their editorial page, and Mark Levin in his 1# NY Times bestseller.  A book written for its own times seems to have become a book for all times.

Unfortunately Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent is #5 thanks to Chávez and Obama. At least Atlas Shrugged and Tom Woods’ Meltdown are in the top 100.

  2. John McLaurin says:

Unfortunately, history repeats itself, mostly in the errors and avoidable mistakes. That is why this is an important book. It is very clearly written, though a bit dry in some sections. People now are thinking what a neat idea socialism is as they did in the earlier part of the twentieth century, which inspired this book, among others. This is the one that says it best.
