Brinkley's book [Tour of Duty] says nothing about Kerry ever meeting with representatives of the North Vietnamese government or Viet Cong in Paris. And this sounds about right:
from my own admittedly cushy perspective, [the word] "betrayal" [used in the Swift vet ad] is still a stronger word than I would yet feel comfortable using, and it conveys a more damning moral judgment than I am yet comfortable making. Although the circumstantial evidence is powerful, it still requires the drawing of an inference to conclude that there was an express quid pro quo or agreement between Kerry and his VVAW comrades and the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong representatives in Paris. Kerry's resolute silence on all the details of his discussions, what was actually discussed, how and through whom the meeting(s) were arranged [does however cut] against him.Posted by Greg Ransom
