THE RE-COUNT IN THE WASHINGTON Governor's race has begun. It's rather dramatic to see how utterly Red the state of Washington becomes once you cross the Cascade mountains going East. I was born in an Eastern Washington county which voted Democrat during the early years of my life. It was Blue State country, voting for Tom Foley, Scoop Jackson, Warren Magnuson -- solid FDR/ Truman Democrats. Think Federal dams, Federal agricultural checks, and Federal nuke plants. It's not Blue State country anymore. This year the county voted more than 2-1 for George Bush for President and more than 2-1 for Republican Dino Rossi for Governor. In the first count of the vote of Governor, the final votes tallied came in from the county of my birth, and these votes put Rossi over the top, ahead by 261 votes. Any election won by fewer than 1,000 votes is automatically recounted under Washington state law. Posted by Greg Ransom | TrackBack
