HERE'S another one for the Christmas list -- Juice : The Creative Fuel That Drives World-Class Inventors by Evan Schwartz -- the author who wrote the recent book on Philo Farnsworth, the inventor of television. Schwartz also writes for Technology Review.

Already on my list: An Empire of Wealth : The Epic History of American Economic Power by John Steele Gordon. Robert Samuelson writes this in today's WaPo:

Gordon has written the best one-volume economic history of the United States in a long time, and perhaps ever. Highly readable and fact-filled, it's basically optimistic. Gordon argues that America's success is rooted in a society that rewards people for being ambitious, taking risks and trying new ideas ..
