BUSH'S CALIFORNIA LANDSLIDE -- George Bush won 20 of the 23 fastest growing California counties -- losing in fast growing Sacramento by a bare .2 percent and at the U. of Cal., Davis by 21 points. Bush was crushed, however, in the three slowest growing California counties:
55. Marin. 74-26 Kerry
56. San Francisco 83-15 Kerry
57. San Mateo 70-29 Kerry
Tree counties which "basically had almost no net growth between 2000 and 2003."

San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo together are a cultural, geographical, and technological wonderland -- yet no one wants to live there. People would rather move to Riverside, Merced or San Bernardino. What gives?

UPDATE: Paul Homchick writes:

Everybody wants to live in these three counties, but few can afford to. Housing prices in the Bay Area are the highest in California, yet new construction is close to the bottom. Liberal "concern for the environment" coupled with over-regulation make it very expensive and time consuming to build anything here. (I live in San Francisco). Residents of the Bay Area are liberal in almost every way imaginable except for their acceptance of development. Liberals make very good NIMBYs.
