The president mentioned a Department of Defense program called "America Supports You" and other volunteer groups that have been created to help troops. He called on Americans to volunteer their time, write letters and send care packages to those who serve in the military. "In this season of giving, let us stand with the men and women who stand up for America," Bush said. Heather Jay, whose husband is serving his second tour in Iraq, said she welcomed the president's message. "I liked the fact that he addressed all of America and said support the military in whatever you can do," Jay said after the president's speech at Camp Pendleton. "Acknowledging that everything (military families) do is appreciated. It's very, very emotional."Posted by Greg Ransom | TrackBack
