TINY NORWAY -- home of
Jan Egeland -- has contributed
$8 million (US) to disaster relief in South Asia. The population of Norway is 4 and 1/2 million, a bit more than the population of Los Angeles. If the U.S. government were to match the generosity of the Norwegian government dollar per citizen, the U.S. would contributing something on the order of $500 million dollars. (To be clear, when we speak of "generosity" in such cases we are speaking of the "generosity" of politicians and bureaucrats with other people's money.)
